HKCA Superstar Cricket Programme
Each year Horowhenua-Kapiti Cricket Association (HKCA) run a schools cricket programme called Superstar Cricket. In the first year we did this programme we had just 4 schools from Levin enter into the programme. A few years down the track we now have personalized connections with schools that have doubled that number. Each year HKCA change up the programme to make it more exciting and interactive than the last. The programme consists of awareness and development sessions that involve fulfilled cricket skills and games. At the end of the programme each school receives a certain amount of HKCA branded cricket packs that contain a ball, bat, bag, and set of stumps thanks to our partnerships with Kookaburra. Once all schools have completed their awareness and development sessions, each school then enters a certain amount of teams into a round robin tournament that HKCA hold at both Donnelly Park and Kena Kena park in term 1 where Horowhenua based schools compete against each other and the Kapiti schools compete against each other on different nights of the week. The aim of this school programme is to give kids a taste of cricket and hope they then move into clubs cricket.
