PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

HKCA Smash Play Programme

Smash Play Sessions (Years 3–8)

Fun, inclusive, and values-based cricket for all skill levels

  • 4 x 40-minute sessions per age group, delivered across Terms 4 and 1

  • Year groups: 3–4, 5–6, and 7–8

  • Maximum 30 students per school (10 per session group)

  • Sessions focus on fun, active games based on cricket

  • Emphasis on teamwork, honesty, support, and cooperation

  • Flexible delivery times, with indoor options if school facilities allow

How it works
Once enrolled, each school selects up to 10 students per session group. All schools must include Year 3/4 and 5/6 groups. The total number of participants cannot exceed 30. Sessions are designed to develop fundamental movement and sport-specific skills in a supportive environment.

Smash Play Festival

A celebration of participation, teamwork, and fun

  • Schools enter at least one team per smash session group selected (Years 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8)

  • Festival format includes 6 or 8-a-side modified games, played in pairs

  • Events will be held in Kapiti and Levin in Term 4 (November) and Term 1 (TBC)

  • Each team plays four games in a round-robin structure

  • HKCA will provide umpires and scorers where possible, with additional support from teachers or parents if required

  • All participants receive a certificate and a small prize (ball, bag, or hat)

  • Each festival concludes with a prizegiving, BBQ, and refreshments

HKCA Intermediate Hardball Programme (Year 7–8)

Hardball Introduction Sessions

Building confidence and readiness for hardball cricket

  • 1 x 40-minute hardball session offered in Term 4

  • Maximum 10 students per team

  • Sessions ensure participants are at a safe skill level to play hardball

  • Focus on developing cricket skills in a fun, values-driven environment

  • Delivery times are flexible based on school needs

Note: Schools will be contacted directly if a participant requires more development before progressing to hardball matches.

Intermediate Hardball Festival

An opportunity for students to take the next step in cricket

  • Format includes 9-a-side (boys) and 6-a-side (girls) games

  • Events scheduled for Term 4 (December) and Term 1 (March) in both Kapiti and Levin

  • All protective gear will be provided by HKCA

  • Umpires and scorers will be arranged by HKCA, but schools may need to assist

  • All participants will receive a prize and a completion certificate
