First Smash - Suitable For School Years 0-3: Approx. Ages 4-7

Ideal for first timers with little or no experience.

This introductory cricket program runs for 12 weeks – 6 weeks in Term 4 and 6 weeks in Term 1 (2026). Each session focuses on teaching a different skill, building confidence, and having heaps of fun. The sessions are designed for high participation, which helps develop the confidence and skills needed to play in a team environment. Modified games are also played to put the skills learned into practice.

After completing the program, children should feel confident to move up to the next stage of playing in the team-based T16 Blast.

All sessions are delivered by the Horowhenua Kapiti Coaching Team.

Program Schedule

Horowhenua Hub
Mondays from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM
Locations: Donnelly Park and Weraroa Domain (rotating weekly)
Term 4 Start Date: Monday, 3rd November 2025
Term 1 Start Date: Monday, 9th February 2026
Duration: 6 weeks per term

Kapiti Hub
Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Locations: Kena Kena Park (Waikanae) and Paraparaumu Domain (rotating weekly)
Term 4 Start Date: Wednesday, 5th November 2025
Term 1 Start Date: Wednesday, 11th February 2026
Duration: 6 weeks per term

Each week, a different location will be used within the hub. The full program runs for 12 weeks across Terms 4 and 1.
