Horowhenua Kapiti's Superstar Cricket Programme Outline
For the past 4 years, Horowhenua Kapiti have run a New Zealand Cricket schools programme called Superstar Cricket. In our first year we had just 4 schools from Levin enter into the programme. However, just 4 years later, we now have 22 schools across Horowhenua Kapiti taking part in this season's programme.
The school programme consists of awareness sessions for every class in the school in which every pupil receives 1 hour of cricket skills and games. These awareness sessions will see over 4000 pupils take part in at least 1 cricket lesson this season across our region. Once the awareness sessions have been complete, 20-26 pupils from years 3&4 and 5&6 will take part in the development phase of the programme where they receive 8 further cricket lessons covering all aspects of cricket. *Every participant will also recieve a recently designed HKCA cricket pack containing ball, bat, bag, and set of stumps thanks to our partnerships with Kookaburra. Once those lessons have been completed, each school then enters 2 teams each into a term 1 round robin tournament which will see the Horowhenua based schools compete against each other and the Kapiti schools compete against each other on different nights of the week. *Subject to funding.
